Hope Rescue is a charity that co-ordinates the rescue of dogs who are about to be killed in Local Authority dog pounds after the statutory seven days, or in emergency situations.
They are completely self-funding. Cotswold Carriage Driving has donated a carriage drive\lesson for a number of years to go on Hope Rescue on-line auction.
Here are the comments from Caroline who donated £110.00 for a carriage drive.
"Thank you for a fantastic day Stephanie. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, being a disabled person, it is very hard to get out and experience the world around you, not only because of mobility issues, but because of the crippling agoraphobia that
comes with being bed and house bound for
I especially loved knowing that my taster session with you
today went towards helping dogs at Hope Rescue Wales, thank you so much
for donating the money spent on the experience, to them.
I would love to come back in future, Gigi was such a well mannered and beautiful horse and I felt proud to be sitting behind her on the carriage, knowing that so much
time and effort and thought had gone into making sure the tack
was the kindest it could be for her to wear.
The scenery was beautiful and I really enjoyed hearing about the history of the Fosse and you pointing out various landmarks, and even the rare chance of seeing
You made the session very hands on despite my condition and always asked if I
was okay which was very kind of you. I would definitely love
to come back again and see you and your gorgeous horses".
Oak and Furrows take in around 3000 casualties a year. It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The charity relies on donations to survive and does not recieve any government funding.
Their "aim is to provide care for wild animals in need so that they can be returned to the wild fit and healthy for a second chance. To do this, we are always in need of help. If you'd like to get involved, take a look at our Getting involved and Ways to Donate pages." Click on:
At the end of each lesson or experience, clients are invited to evaluate the instructor for their performance for the previous three hours, day or the length of the session. Here are some of their written comments, reproduced with their permission:
"An excellent introduction to the art of carriage driving. I really appreciated the emphasis on the welfare of the horse, and the safety aspect. Steph was fantastically patient, and encouraging, which allowed a new "whip" (driver) to learn a huge amount and increase confidence. A thoroughly enjoyable day. Thank you."
"Comprehensive, relaxed and very patient. Understanding of how people learn is great and builds greater knowledge in the student." G Lockett and J Reeve
"Really enjoyed the morning. Very thorough approach and safety taken very seriously. Very well taught." S and P Williams
"Roger (the horse) was very understanding. Steph gives clear instructions and confidence in your abilities, even if you are nervous." D North
"Horses are amazing - and Steph's not bad either! Thank you for being so patient." B Wingate
"Wow, what a lot to remember! Roger and Gigi were beautifully behaved and very tolerant. The harness and carriage were immaculate and Steph was very, very patient. A wonderful day and I very much enjoyed the experience." G Thompson

Very clear explanation throughout, with useful repetition when appropriate. Very patient and calm!! Thanks very much." L and J Taylor
"Thank you Steph for a lovely day. So much to learn, but it will stay with me for a long time. Your patience was commendable and the horses georgous and so good. Very many thanks." A Brennan
